DTI: Business name registrations up 8% in 2011
Business name registrations (BNR) at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) increased by 8.33 percent in 2011—the first full year of implementation of the electronic BNR system, which was launched in October 2010.
In a news release issued Friday, the DTI said 318,920 registered businesses last year versus 294,410 in 2010—for an increment of 24,510 new registrations.
“The EBNRS is one of the department’s anti-red tape initiatives in line with the government’s policy of streamlining the bureaucratic processes and curbing corruption in the frontline agencies," Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo said.
In less than 30 minutes, according to the DTI, entrepreneurs can get their Business Name Registration Certificate. Filing the one-page application form takes 15 minutes and requires only one signature, the DTI said.
Registration of business name is one of many steps in starting a business in the country. To trim the number of steps further, the DTI rolled out the Philippine Business Registry or PBR last January 2012.
The PBR links the EBNRS with the registration processes of other key agencies such as the Bureau of Internal Revenue, Social Security System, Home Mutual Development Fund, Philippine Health Insurance Corp., Securities and Exchange Commission and a growing number of local government units.
