This is a fair policy recommendation: to increase employment and achieve 'inclusive growth', the focus on services, via stimulating further growth of BPOs, should not exclude envigorating and sustaining the manufacturing sector.

The call to strengthen and expand the (declining) PH manufacturing sector comes at the same time as the announcement - a perennial one - from the PH Central Bank that high OFW remittances are what is keeping the economy stable . The other current news item of interest is the Supreme Court decision ratifying the break-up and redistribution of the largest agricultural estate in the country, the Hacienda Luisita, for agrarian reform purposes. This is a most significant development in the agricultural sector - a fillip to the cause of social justice which may or may not lead to increased farm productivity.
